Forming the Dialogues focusing the Lens of Gender on Public Commons Conservation and Justice for Localized Climate Actions

The Bagmati Province-Level Dialogue on “the Localization of Climate Actions: A Gender Lens on Public Commons Conservation and Justice,” was held in the provincial capital, Hetauda on 23rd December 2024. The event marked a significant milestone in advancing climate justice from a gender perspective.
This impactful event was jointly organized by Makwanpur Mahila Samuha, Chitwan Sakriya Women’s Foundation, and ActionAid Nepal in partnership with Jiwanta Nepal, CDA Nepal, Better Chitwan, Amnesty International Forestry Youth Network, Digo Bikash Institutes, NYCA Hetauda, YRC, FOF Hetauda, Green Foundation, and Bagmati UNESCO Club. The event was coordinated with academic institutions, including the Institute of Forestry and the Faculty of Forestry at the Agriculture and Forest University.
The dialogue sessions fostered an environment of collaboration, discussion, and innovation, aiming to tackle climate change while ensuring that marginalized communities, especially women, are at the forefront of decision-making processes. These collaborations formed a united front to drive gender-inclusive climate actions, bringing together over 185 participants from diverse backgrounds, including policymakers, activists, and community leaders.
Additionally, grassroots innovations, eco-friendly practices, and community-led solutions were showcased through vibrant exhibitions, art installations, and a signature campaign. This dialogue ignited strong commitments to address climate change with a gender lens.
The event was honored by the presence of the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Bahadur Singh Lama, along with the participation of the Minister of Social Development, Hari Prabha Khadgi, the Minister of Forest and Environment, Krishna Prasad Silwal, and other representatives from the provincial assembly, local government, the Policy and Planning Commission, as well as focal persons in DRR, forest, and agriculture units from various municipalities. The event also featured representatives from NGOs, community groups, experts, media, students, and volunteers, whose collective efforts contributed to its success.
With 26 key call-to-action points generated, the participants expressed their determination to advance gender-inclusive climate justice and build sustainable communities, fostering a resilient future where both the environment and marginalized voices are prioritized.
