ActionAid is a global justice federation committed to advancing social justice, gender equality, and the eradication of poverty. Established in 1972, the organization has continuously evolved to address the systemic drivers of inequality and injustice. ActionAid’s core belief is that people living in poverty and exclusion hold the power to create meaningful change within their families, communities, and societies. Since the 1990s, ActionAid has embraced a Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) to development, and in 2003, the ActionAid International federation was formed, now headquartered in South Africa.

ActionAid International Nepal (AAIN), a member of this global federation, was established in 1982 as a social justice organization working across multiple provinces of Nepal. AAIN actively engages in national and international social justice movements and collaborates with networks, alliances, and civil society coalitions. Through an HRBA framework, AAIN empowers marginalized communities to claim their rights and challenge the root causes of poverty, exclusion, and injustice. As part of the global federation, AAIN works with partners worldwide to promote social justice, gender equality, poverty eradication, and climate justice.

The Project Coordinator will lead, facilitate, and ensure the effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of the Breaking Barriers Project. The position ensures programmes are grounded in HRBA principles and remain centered on People Living in Poverty and Exclusion (PLiP).
The role is responsible for effective programme and partnership management, maintaining strong relationships with government entities, donors, implementing partners, and LGBTIQ+ networks. The incumbent will serve as the focal person for the Breaking Barriers Project and contribute to AAIN’s broader institutional priorities.

  • Participate in and contribute to Bi-lateral Partnership Management Forum Meetings (BPMM).
  • Review partners’ periodic reports, documentation, and stories of change, and share relevant information with the Line Manager and concerned departments.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to identify and develop proposals, concept notes, and submissions to donors, especially on LGBTIQ+ political and social inclusion.
  • Lead project budgeting and programme planning to ensure proper expenditure control and resource utilization in line with approved budgets and established procedures.
  • Support the development, review, and consolidation of partner programme plans and budgets.
  • Develop engagement strategies and lead relationship-building with provincial and federal government line agencies, networks, alliances, and consortium partners.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working with LGBTIQ+ communities.
  • Prior experience with institutional donors, particularly the EU.
  • Experience working closely with local implementing partners.
  • Strong understanding of political and social inclusion issues affecting LGBTIQ+ populations.
  • Knowledge of Human Rights-Based Approach to development.
  • Strong grasp of development and human rights issues in Nepal.
  • Solid understanding of non-profit programme management best practices.
  • Experience working in multicultural environments with strong skills in budgeting, strategic planning, and working under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (English & Nepali), networking, and public relations skills.

Qualifications

  • Master’s/Bachelors’ degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • At least 5–7 years of relevant work experience, including 3–4 years in a similar role.
  • Certifications or training in Project Planning and Management, HRBA, Participatory Approaches, Governance, Civic Empowerment, Accountability, Monitoring and Evaluation will be an added advantage.

AAIN is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to their ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, HIV status, and disability status. Individuals from LGBTIQ+ communities are highly encouraged to apply.

AAIN is committed to its values and principles on feminist leadership, safeguarding (including Child Safeguarding and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse [PSEA]), and safety & security. All applicants are expected to adhere to AAIN’s policies and procedures.
